The head of Brazilian Embraer's planemaking division dismissed concerns that problems at engine supplier Pratt & Whitney would discourage airlines from placing orders and hinted at some order announcements at the upcoming Paris Airshow. "It is definitely a topic in discussions with customers," said Arjan Meijer, chief executive of Embraer Commercial Aviation. The E2 family of jets was launched a decade ago with the new Pratt engines as an upgrade of the E-Jet family of regional jets, while Embraer continues to offer earlier "E1" versions.

SAO PAULO (Reuters) -Embraer SA widened its net loss in the first quarter from a year ago, driving its shares lower on Thursday despite saying results came in within management expectations for a seasonally weaker period and reaffirming full-year forecasts. The planemaker reported a quarterly adjusted net loss of $88.9 million, larger than the $75.3 million loss seen a year ago, saying it also burnt more cash in the period as it prepares to increase deliveries in the next quarters. "Seasonally weak Q1 was lighter than expected in gross margins and book-bill with larger cash use," analysts at TD Cowen said.

Any deal remains distant as negotiations have yet to start, Airbus' head of defense and space in Latin America, Victor De La Vela, said in an interview at the LAAD defense and security exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, but the France-based company does expect to open talks in the future.
