SINGAPORE — NETS-related services were down for about an hour before being restored on Friday afternoon (3 Nov).

NETS, a Singaporean electronic payment service provider, announced in a Facebook post at 12.25 pm that its NET QR and eNets were facing "intermittent connectivity issues" and were working to stabilise the service.

During peak lunch hour, some users reported on NETS' Facebook page that their payments were not reflected, while some reported being charged multiple times due to the outage.

In a separate Facebook post at around the same time of the incident, DBS announced that its NETS-related services, including NETS QR Scan and Pay, were also unavailable. DBS said customers can use DBS/PSOB credit and debit cards, as well as PayNow, to make payments.

At around 1.30 pm, NETS updated its Facebook page to say that the NETS QR and eNets services had been restored. No reason was given as to the cause of the outage.

The service disruption experienced by NETS users today is the latest in a series of financial services-related outages that have taken place this year.

On 14 October, DBS / POSB bank experienced disruptions to a wide range of its services, including DBS/POSB digibank and DBS PayLah! due to a system outage.

Following several similar incidents since 2022, the bank was reprimanded by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and banned from acquiring new business ventures for six months. The bank will also hold senior management accountable for the outages.
