Google to invest $2 billion in data centre and cloud services in Malaysia
Google will invest $2 billion in Malaysia to develop its first data centre and Google Cloud region in the country, the unit of Alphabet said on Thursday, the latest in a wave of expansion by global tech firms into Southeast Asia. The government said the investment would advance Malaysia's digital ambitions, and the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and other advanced technologies would help local industry move up the global value chain.With a young tech-savvy population of 670 million, Southeast Asia has been attracting plenty of interest and investment recently from technology giants including Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia and Apple.

Singapore to invest $222 mln to boost quantum computing capability
Singapore will invest about $222 million (S$300 million) as part of a new national quantum computing strategy to advance its research on the technology, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said on Thursday. "We will establish a new National Quantum Processor Initiative to build capabilities in the design and build of quantum processors in Singapore," he said in a speech at the Asia Tech x Singapore Summit. Tech firms such as Microsoft, Alphabet's Google and IBM as well as nation-states across the world are racing to create machines that can take advantage of quantum mechanics and potentially be capable of making scientific calculations that would otherwise take traditional computers millions of years.
