Russian court sides with Campari in Aperol distributor lawsuit

MOSCOW (Reuters) -A Russian court has banned a local distribution company from importing and selling Campari's trademarked Aperol drink in the country in a case brought by the Italian spirits group, court documents showed. Campari has said it is maintaining purely commercial activities in both Russia and Ukraine, without giving further details. Court documents from a hearing held in the city of Rostov-on-Don stated that Master-Trade had been prohibited from unauthorised imports and sales of Aperol, the popular orange-coloured aperitif.

Courvoisier deal leaves bitter taste as Campari shares slip

MILAN (Reuters) -Campari shares fell as much as 6% early Friday on news it will spend $1.2 billion to buy French cognac brand Courvoisier - the Italian spirits group's biggest deal yet, but one that will hurt its profit margin in the short term. Campari has a track record of breathing new life into declining brands, analysts said, adding the deal made sense. But Courvoisier will initially take around 80 basis points off the group's gross profit margin, according to executives, while Campari will fund the high price tag via a mix of cash, debt and equity.

Italy's Campari to buy Courvoisier cognac in $1.2 billion deal

MILAN/LONDON (Reuters) -Italy's Campari on Thursday agreed to buy historic French cognac house Courvoisier from Beam Suntory for $1.2 billion, marking a big push into brandy with Campari's biggest acquisition on record. The purchase of a top four cognac brandy is the crowning achievement for Chief Executive Bob Kunze-Concewitz, who is due to leave next year after steering Campari through a long list of deals, including the purchase of Grand Marnier for 490 million euros in 2016. "Christmas came early for Campari this year," Kunze-Concewitz told analysts.
