U.S. stock futures were edging higher early Monday after falling back at the end of last week. Contracts tied to the S&P 500 were flat, while futures for the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite were falling 0.2%. On Friday, both the S&P and Nasdaq fell about 0.2%, while the Dow finished little changed.

European markets opened with gains and Asian benchmarks retreated Monday after U.S. stocks coasted to the close of their latest winning week. France’s CAC 40 added 0.4% to 8,271.36 as investors looked ahead to the first round of voting in the French election in the coming weekend. Minutes of the Japanese central bank’s last policy meeting released Monday put the yen under renewed pressure as it indicated that “Any change in the policy interest rate should be considered only after economic indicators confirm that, for example, the CPI inflation rate has clearly started to rebound and medium-to long-term inflation expectations have risen.”
