The third instalment of the popular Kiasunomics book series was officially launched on June 4. Titled ‘Kiasunomics — Economic Insights for Everyday Life’ the book is co-authored by Professors Sumit Agarwal and Sing Tien Foo, and Associate Professor Ang Swee Hoon from the National University of Singapore Business School.

The official book launch was attended by guest of honour, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development.

The book is the trio’s latest instalment of the Kiasunomics series, which was first published in 2017, and the second instalment was released in 2020. All three instalments cast typical economic issues and challenges through a uniquely Singaporean lens that is easy to understand and entertaining.

In their latest edition, the authors cover interdisciplinary topics such as the correlation between climate change and property prices, the correlation between the BTO scheme and divorce rates in Singapore, the impact of living close to MRT tracks and the influence of online listing portals on the real estate market.

“Kiasunomics is a one-of-its-kind book that is truly Singaporean. This book contains many academic research works that use Singapore’s data and rigorous methodologies to investigate many interesting stories about the everyday life of Singaporeans,” says Ibrahim.

He adds that public housing is one of the timely issues covered in the latest book, and the chapters on the government’s retirement support programme, and gender income gap shine the spotlight on policies and topical issues Singapore faces.
