Swan & Maclaren Group wins illumination tender for Six Flags Qiddiya

Estimated to be completed before early 2025, it is projected to be the world’s biggest theme park.

Singapore-headquartered Swan & Maclaren Group (SMG) has secured its first Middle East illumination engineering tender, the Six Flags Qiddiya theme park, which is projected to be the world’s biggest theme park and estimated to be completed before early 2025.

SMG subsidiary SM C2R awarded the tender by a joint venture between Bouygues Bâtiment International (BBI) and Saudi Almabani General Contractors (AGC), valued at around US$28 million ($37.85 million).

The scope of the tender includes the development design and engineering; manufacture, supply and delivery; supervision of Installation, testing and commissioning of special lighting and lighting control system for the theme park in Riyadh.

Edwin Tan, SMG’s deputy group chief executive officer, says: “This is a significant illumination engineering project for us at Swan & Maclaren Group and we are excited to work with our partners on this iconic and massive-scaled theme park project located in Riyadh. At SMG, our culture and mission of pursuing business excellence will drive us towards delivering the highest quality results for our clients. We are both humbled and privileged to have been selected to be a part of this iconic and world-renowned theme park project.”

This is SMG’s first illumination engineering mega theme park project in the Middle East. The group has clinched projects such as the 2018 Winter Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in Pyeongchang, the Venetian Macao, Marina Bay Sands; and other architectural and master planning designs including Shanghai Raffles Hospital, Holland Piazza in Singapore and Garden City Lao Cai City in Vietnam.

Swan and Maclaren, established in 1892, is Singapore's oldest architectural firm. Its team was behind the designs of the Raffles Hotel, Goodwood Park Hotel, Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall and Tanjong Pagar Railway station, among others.

SMG is now present in Hong Kong, China, the UK, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and Saudi Arabia, with Singapore as its global headquarters. Its businesses have expanded beyond architecture and design to include immersive experience design and build, green technology and build, and soon, luxury senior residences management.
