ST Engineering wins contract to upgrade Singapore navy frigates

ST Engineering will undertake the design, engineering and upgrade of a number of the RSN frigates’ marine and electrical systems.

Singapore Technologies Engineering has won a contract to upgrade from the Ministry of Defence to upgrade the Formidable-class frigates for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).

ST Engineering will undertake the design and engineering of the upgrade of the frigates’ marine and electrical systems, including its ship management and power generation systems.

The frigates will be upgraded progressively, the first of which is expected to be completed in 2028.

Construction of the RSS Formidable, the first of the six vessels of this class, commenced in 2002.

“We are committed to supporting MINDEF in ensuring the continued mission effectiveness of this important capability,” says Tan Leong Peng, president of ST Engineering Marine.

As with its defence-related contracts, the dollar value of the orders is not disclosed.

Prior to this, ST Engineering has built up a record orderbook of $27.5 billion as of Sept 30.
