Spain's competition watchdog probes Endesa for potential anti-competitive practices

MADRID (Reuters) - The Spanish competition watchdog is investigating energy firm Endesa for potential abuse of its dominant position in the electricity distribution market, the CNMC said on Wednesday.

The CNMC competition authority said it has received several complaints against the company claiming that it discriminated against competitors by favouring its own subsidiaries in situations including installing equipment as well as rooftop and other systems.

In June last year, the authority raided two facilities of the group, the CNMC said.

A spokesperson for Endesa said the company has provided the authority with all the information required. Endesa will continue to collaborate with CNMC in everything it requests, the spokesperson added.

The company "has acted at all times in compliance with the legislation and scrupulously respecting the principle of neutrality that governs the operation of electricity distributors in their dealings with the different players existing in the market, which guarantees that no preferential treatment is given to anyone," he said.

Last month, CNMC said it opened an investigation into rival utility Naturgy also regarding possible anti-competitive practices in the electricity market.
