SingPost said this adjustment is due to higher annual international postal settlement fees.

SINGAPORE – Singapore Post (SingPost) announced on Thursday (7 December) that the rate for international postage will rise by 5 cents from 1 January 2024 due to higher annual international postal settlement fees.

"Starting from 1 January 2024, the rates for international airmail letters, printed papers, aerogrammes and postcards will be increased by $0.05 for Zones 1, 2 and 3," SingPost said in a press release.

The rates hike applies for Zone 1 (Malaysia and Brunei), Zone 2 (countries in Asia and the Pacific except Australia, Japan, and New Zealand) and Zone 3 (Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the rest of the world).

"International postal settlement rates have progressively increased over the years due to annual fee revisions made by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). This settlement fee is payable to postal organisations of destination countries for mail delivery," SingPost said.

New rate for aerogrammes

The new rate for aerogrammes for all zones except Malaysia and Brunei will be S$0.85, up from S$0.80 currently. Meanwhile, aerogramme rates for Malaysia and Brunei will remain the same at S$0.80 per piece, as well as mail charges for additional weightage.

Earlier, the company had increased its local standard regular mail rates by 20 cents to 51 cents, from 31 cents. The new rate took effect from 9 October. It was the first significant rate increment introduced by SingPost since 2014 when postage was increased from 22 cents to 30 cents.
