Singlife with Aviva insures itself against disruptions with the cloud

The Singaporean financial services company will enhance its digital capabilities by going all-in on AWS by the end of 2023.

Singlife with Aviva (Singlife) will be going all-in on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud by the end of 2023 to deliver hyper-personalised digital financial services and support its environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) agenda.

Prior to its merger with Aviva Singapore in 2022, Singlife built a digital-first service model on AWS to support its consumers in Singapore and the Philippines.

As a merged entity with Aviva Singapore, Singlife is closing its on-premises data centres and migrating its Aviva IT workloads to AWS. The move will provide Singlife with unified data capabilities that improve speed-to-market of new products and enhance the company’s digital workflows, ultimately powering Singlife’s new user interfaces to elevate the consumer experience for more than 1.5 million customers.

To unite the company’s data, Singlife built a data repository with AWS Partner Snowflake’s single, integrated platform. This platform helps Singlife securely load, integrate, analyse, and share data on AWS to make better data-driven business decisions.

Singlife manages data from the repository using Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), a service that helps AWS customers set up, operate, and scale a relational database in the cloud.

With AWS, Singlife can securely share datasets with partners and regulators to improve the consumer experience with new financially-compliant services.

Using Amazon SageMaker, Singlife can more easily build models to automatically deliver personalised insurance policy recommendations for consumers in real-time.

Meanwhile, Amazon Connect enabled Singlife to develop a robust omnichannel contact centre for the MySinglife portal with agile query handling and policy purchasing to enhance Singlife’s consumer service model.

“Our cloud-first strategy with AWS allows us to stay true to our digital-first heritage, enabling us to harness the full potential of technology to benefit our consumers. With our upgraded data analytic capabilities, we are now uniquely positioned to provide consumers with hyper-personalised experiences, helping them achieve financial freedom confidently on their own terms,” says Romil Sharma, group head, technology and operations at Singlife with Aviva.

Besides that, Singlife will leverage AWS to develop best practices to meet its ESG goals by building a sustainable business through responsible investments, innovative sustainable products, and carbon-neutral operations.

Since having skilled employees is important to the success of its cloud initiatives, Singlife will upskill its workforce with in-demand cloud skills in the areas of development, technical operations, and management through AWS’s training programmes.

AWS has developed a tailored training programme for Singlife. This includes Cloud Essentials for Business Leaders, Cloud Practitioner Essentials, Technical Essentials, Well-Architected Best Practices, and hands-on AWS JAM sessions, in which employees experience game-based learning.

Additionally, Singlife’s leadership team will participate in AWS’s Cloud in the Clouds executive training programme, which provides leaders with a comprehensive overview of cloud services and insights on how to nurture a cloud-driven work culture using the AWS Cloud Essentials for Business Leaders training module.

“By going all-in on AWS, Singlife with Aviva is taking a cloud-first approach while upskilling employees in the latest cloud capabilities. Using AWS, Singlife with Aviva can quickly develop new and innovative data-driven services, and enhance consumer experiences, supporting their customer promise of ‘A Better Way to Financial Freedom’,” says Vikram Rao, head of enterprise, ASEAN at AWS.
