Singapore's Seletar Airport resumes commercial operation with Firefly flight
SINGAPORE — Singapore’s Seletar Airport marked its reopening to commercial flights since the pandemic with Malaysian budget carrier Firefly resuming its service on Monday (13 June).
The airline will be having twice-daily flights in each direction – between Malaysia's Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang and Seletar Airport.
Flights were suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, putting a halt to Firefly’s operations at Seletar Airport since its maiden flight there in April 2019. Before the pandemic, the airline was plying six Subang-Seletar services daily in each direction.
To prepare for the resumption, Changi Airport Group (CAG), which manages Seletar Airport, conducted multiple operational trials and system tests with Seletar’s airport partners.

Staff also had refresher training sessions and briefings on operational and safety requirements. Taxi companies have also been informed of the resumption of flights, with taxi drivers who pick up passengers from the airport offered free coffee and tea in June.
The carrier marked the occasion with flight FY3124 ferrying its chief executive officer Philip See and 58 other passengers from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport to Seletar Airport Monday morning.
See said of the event, "This recommencement has become one of the highlights for Firefly this year especially after the last flight in March 2020. Singapore has become one of the important destinations for us, connecting passengers of leisure and business. Hence, this recommencement will be able to connect passengers from both countries, whilst enhancing the economy via the tourism industry."
Receiving the delegation was CAG’s executive vice president of airport management Tan Lye Teck, who said that the group was working closely with airport partners on the resumption of flights to provide a smoother experience for passengers.
Firefly passengers travelling to and from Seletar Airport will enjoy 20kg complimentary baggage allowance, fast check-in and boarding and complimentary in-flight refreshments onboard, the carrier said in a media statement.
Passengers may also add on 25kg baggage allowance, unlimited flight changes, priority boarding, seat selection, and travel insurance through Firefly’s bundled service offerings.
Passengers are still required to be fully vaccinated and comply with all standard requirements by both countries before booking their flights.
