SIA opens SilverKris and KrisFlyer Gold lounges at Changi Airport after S$50m upgrade

SINGAPORE — Singapore Airlines (SIA) has unveiled two premium flagship lounges at Singapore’s Changi Airport after a S$50 million upgrade, signalling its confidence in the recovery of air travel as border measures loosen.

The Private Room, its most exclusive space, and the first class SilverKris lounge will welcome customers from 6pm on 31 May, while the business class section of the SilverKris lounge and KrisFlyer Gold lounge are now open, according to a statement.

The premium lounges reopen at a time when Changi Airport is seeing increasing passenger movements. Passenger movements crossed the one-million mark for the first time in two years in March and passenger traffic in April neared 40 per cent of pre-pandemic levels. The number is expected to rise to more than half pre-pandemic volume this year.

SIA and its budget carrier Scoot ferried a total of 1,452,500 passengers in April this year, up 62.7 per cent from the previous month. SIA is also set to hire 2,000 cabin crew by March next year, according to The Straits Times.

“Opening these lounges at this time signals our commitment to SIA’s premium brand and growth strategy. It reinforces our position as Changi Airport’s anchor airline, and reflects our confidence in Singapore’s future as a pre-eminent global air hub,” SIA’s chief executive officer Goh Choon Phong said in a statement.

The upgraded lounges can collectively accommodate around 1,150 customers, a 30 per cent increase from previous capacities.

The SilverKris lounge is divided into three areas, comprising The Private Room, as well as the first class and business class sections.

The Private Room is exclusively for SIA’s Suites and first class customers, while Solitaire PPS Club members can access the first class section of the SilverKris Lounge. The business class section welcomes SIA’s business class travellers and PPS Club members, while the KrisFlyer gold lounge is available for KrisFlyer Elite Gold and Star Alliance Gold members.

Each lounge has its own dedicated dining area, food service counters, restrooms, and showers, as well as baby care and accessible facilities.

Among offerings in both the Private Room and the first-class section are booth seats and day rooms that are conducive for work and rest.

The buffet line in the first class section features a live cooking station, where a chef will prepare crowd favourites such as bak chor mee, popular egg breakfast options, roti prata, and pasta dishes.

The business class section of the SilverKris Lounge, now 20 per cent larger, has four distinct seating sections: a rest area; a dining hall with self service buffet; a living room area with sofa seats and productivity pods; and an open concept courtyard-style area that offers light bites.
