Russia postpones start of MS-21 airliner deliveries until 2025-26 -agencies

Feb 29 (Reuters) - Russia is postponing the start of deliveries of its MS-21 passenger plane from this year until 2025 or 2026, Russian news agencies reported on Thursday, citing Sergey Chemezov, CEO of the plane's producer Rostec.

Russia's aviation industry aims to produce 1,000 airliners by 2030, including 270 medium-haul, domestically produced MS-21s.

The MS-21 is model designed to rival the Western-made Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families of planes.

"We haven't finished the tests yet," Interfax quoted Chemezov as saying. "We are still concerned about safety for us all - it is us who will actually fly these planes."

Heavily dependent on foreign-made aircraft, Russia has spent more than $12 billion in state subsidies and loans supporting its civil aviation industry since Western sanctions over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine cut off supplies of components and maintenance services.
