Power blip across New York City followed equipment failure - Con Edison

By Nicole Jao

NEW YORK, Dec 15 (Reuters) - An electric equipment failure at a Con Edison substation led to a brief power outage across New York City minutes before midnight on Thursday, the company said.

A fault on a high-tension transmission line led to an explosion at a substation in Brooklyn and a voltage dip across the city, the utility said on Friday. Its spare transmission equipment lent support and power was restored in a matter of seconds.

“We're going to have to investigate through the course of today how significant that damage is and make repairs,” said Matthew Ketschke, president of Con Edison. (Reporting by Nicole Jao)
