NY to invest in genomic research in Buffalo
NY governor announces plans for genomic research center in Buffalo; part of 'Buffalo Billion'
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced plans for a new genomic research facility in Buffalo.
In his State of the State address Wednesday in Albany, Cuomo said the state will invest $50 million from the so-called "Buffalo Billion" he's promised to improve the economy of upstate's largest city.
Plans are for the University at Buffalo to partner with the recently opened New York Genome Center in Manhattan and Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo to accelerate advances in genomic medicine. It's an up-and-coming field involving treatment personalized according to a patient's genetic makeup.
Cuomo envisions upstate New York as a national center for genomic research and jobs.
