Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS) has appointed John Yong as a non-executive independent director to its board. Yong’s appointment is effective Feb 19.

Yong comes with over 40 years of experience as an information and communication security professional. His appointment as NETS’s third non-executive independent director will contribute towards the board’s capabilities as well as the organisation’s continued innovation and growth.

Yong has also held non-executive roles at organisations such as PSA International and Singapore Pools giving guidance in the areas of cybersecurity and technology. He also currently serves as an adviser with the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) where he is also an adjunct professor.

Before his appointment, Yong served for three years as group chief information security officer (CISO) with Certis Group from 2016 to 2019. He was the group head/director of the cyber security group at the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) from 2011 to 2015. IMDA is now known as GovTech. He has also served in leadership roles in the IT security department of the National Computer Board.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr Yong to our board. We can all agree on the importance of robust cybersecurity as the bedrock of Singapore’s payment infrastructure. As we navigate the dynamic landscape of digital payments, Mr Yong’s track record in the cybersecurity space will bring valuable perspectives to the board,” says Susan Hwee, NETS chairman.
