Mapletree gets approval to build interim ferry and cruise terminal at Harbourfront: ST

The proposed terminal will measure 17,428.68 sqm and can be used till Sept 11, 2033.

Mapletree has received approval from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) to build an interim ferry and cruise terminal in HarbourFront, reported The Straits Times on Nov 27. The move could pave the way for a potential redevelopment of HarbourFront Centre, adds the broadsheet.

The URA had, on Sept 11, issued its written consent to Mapletree’s subsidiary, HarbourFront Four, to build a two-storey interim terminal. The proposed terminal will measure 17,428.68 sqm and can be used till Sept 11, 2033. URA also gave Mapletree its permission to relocate the existing jetties and pontoons in the area.

The interim terminal will be connected to the current pier serving the existing terminal. It will also have a sheltered link with HarbourFront Tower One. The terminal will have to be demolished after it is no longer in use.

The issued permission comes after URA had given its provisional permission to redevelop the 13-storey HarbourFront Centre into a development with 101,326 sqm of office space and 42,000 sqm of retail space in gross floor area.
