Leadership shuffles occur at ComfortDelGro and subsidary SBS Transit

Two of the three appointments were former Air Force personnel.

A leadership shuffle at taxi operator ComfortDelGro and its subsidiary SBS Transit has seen the three appointments to top roles at the two companies from Jan 1, 2023.

At SBS Transit, Jeffery Sim, the current CEO of SBS Transit’s rail arm, SBS Transit Rail will be appointed group CEO of SBS Transit.

Sim had assumed various positions in rail engineering and rail development.

Under his watch, the Downtown Line (DTL) achieved the distinction of being the most reliable MRT line in the world, clocking more than four million train-km in Mean Kilometres Between Failure (MKBF) in 2021 and year-to-date 2022.

He succeeds current SBS Transit group CEO Cheng Siak Kian, who also holds the concurrent role of ComfortDelGro deputy CEO.

Cheng will be promoted to managing director and group CEO of ComfortDelGro, succeeding current managing director and group CEO Yang Ban Seng.

In their new posts, Sim will lead and oversee the day-to-day management of SBS Transit, while Cheng will be managing and leading the business of ComfortDelGro.

Both Sim and Cheng had been with SBS Transit since Sep 2015, and prior to their stints at SBS Transit, both had been from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).

Cheng was a formation commander of the RSAF’s Air Defence and Operational Command, while Sim was a group commander of the RSAF’s 9 Air Engineering and Logistics Group

ComfortDelGro will also see its current group CFO Koh Thong Hean appointed to the additional post of group deputy CEO, where he will be overseeing the corporate services division of ComfortDelGro and reporting to Cheng.

Shares of SBS Transit closed flat at $2.57 on Dec 8, while ComfortDelGro shares closed flat at $1.24.
