Huawei invites youths to develop AI solutions for inclusivity and sustainability

The winning team of this year's Tech4City will be awarded the grand prize of $20,000 in cash.

Huawei is encouraging youths in Singapore to develop solutions for inclusivity and sustainability using artificial intelligence (AI) through its Tech4City Competition 2024.

The annual competition presents youths with opportunities to cultivate their ideas and skills through networking sessions, tech skills-enhancement programmes, Huawei’s global programmes, and potential internship opportunities.

Individuals between 18 and 35 years old can register for the competition in teams of three to six from now till June 9, 2024.

The winning team will be awarded the grand prize of $20,000 in cash. Besides that, the top five teams will each receive $2,000 funding to develop their prototype.

There will also be an additional cash prize for the best innovation in mobility sponsored by SBS Transit, and two other new awards – “AI in Total Built Environment Adaptive Reuse and Rejuvenation” and “AI in illumination and immersive entertainment” – sponsored by Swan & Maclaren Group.

“As we enter the third consecutive year of the Tech4City Competition, we continue our commitment to fostering the co-creation of enabling an inclusive and sustainable Singapore. Through Tech4City, we provide a platform for young talents to unleash their creativity and innovation, driving positive change and contributing to Singapore’s digital transformation journey,” says Maxi Wang, chief executive officer of Huawei International.

He continues: “Our continuous investment in talent development underscores our dedication as a global corporation to support Singapore’s efforts in paving the way towards a shared, sustainable future with cutting-edge technologies. Together, we are building a more resilient and forward-thinking nation, equipped to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.”

Tech4City underscores Huawei’s commitment to nurturing talents, which is in line with Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0. It also supports the national Digital for Life (DfL) movement, which mobilises partners from the private and public sectors to help Singaporeans embrace digital learning and leverage digital technologies to enhance their daily lives.

The first and second editions of the Huawei Tech4City Competition in 2022 and 2023, respectively, attracted more than 740 talented youths and inspired 1,80 ideation proposals. Winners received a combined total of $60,000 in cash prizes and were granted expedited entry into Huawei programmes.
