Home Run For Ohtani: Baseball Superstar Snags $7.85 Million Mansion 20 Minutes From Dodger Stadium

Baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani scored a short commute by Los Angeles standards when he paid $7.85 million for a mansion just 20 minutes from Dodger Stadium in the Los Angeles foothills.

According to the Los Angeles Times, he bought the property in La La Cañada Flintridge from comedian Adam Carolla, who paid $7.32 million for it in 2018. Carolla told The Wall Street Journal he was selling the place after divorcing his wife, Lynette Paradise.

Ohtani, nicknamed "Shotime," purchased the house about five months after signing a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers.

Built in 2013, the three-story house has a custom kitchen and an indoor-outdoor living room. The 7,327-square-foot home, on nearly an acre of land, has five bedrooms, 6½ bathrooms, a movie theater, a sauna, a gym and a basketball court. The primary suite has a balcony and a spa tub.

An outdoor lounge accessed through pocket doors overlooks the swimming pool, a spa and an expansive lawn.

Carolla put the house on the market last summer with an asking price of $8.99 million. In October, he reduced the price to $8.35 million.

Trending:

Home prices in Los Angeles were up 12.4% in April compared to last year, selling for a median price of $1 million. Los Angeles homes sell in an average of 40 days of being listed, compared to 42 days last year. In April, 1,637 homes sold, up from 1,458 last year.

Ohtani, 29, spent six years with the Los Angeles Angels before joining the Dodgers in October, signing a contract believed to be the biggest in sports history. He was in the news again in March when his translator, Ippei Mizuhara, was accused of theft linked to placing bets with an illegal bookmaker.

Because of his skills as both a hitter and a pitcher, Ohtani is considered among the greatest players in baseball history, with some comparing him to Babe Ruth. He was the first player in Major League Baseball history to have 10 or more home runs and 20 or more stolen bases as a hitter, more than 100 strikeouts and 10 or more pitching appearances in the same season.
