Herman Yau gives Babyjohn Choi 90 marks for effort

2 May - Although it was their first collaboration, Hong Kong director Herman Yau said that he was very satisfied working with actor Babyjohn Choi in the movie, "Shock Wave".

As reported on Mingpao, the director, who appeared on a promotional interview with the actor, shared that although he has never worked with Babyjohn prior to "Shock Wave", he has seen the actor's work before, including his hit 2013 sophomore project, "The Way We Dance".

"I have watched his performance, and have full confidence of his ability. If I can mark him, I will give him 90 points. Personally, I won't give a full 100," he said.

When asked the reason why he wouldn't give the actor full marks, Herman said that he doesn't believe in the existence of perfection.

"The aesthetic is a very strange thing. Perfect is not beautiful. Flaw is beauty," he added.

As for Babyjohn himself, the actor said that he was happy working with Herman and co-star Andy Lau - the latter who also serves as the producer.

"They were supportive of me during filming, put their trust in me, and never gave me any pressure," he said.
