SINGAPORE — A pilot campaign that enlists the help of the public to source for budget meals in coffee shops across Singapore has gained over 200 recommendations since its launch in October 2023, said Senior Minister of State for National Development and Foreign Affairs Sim Ann.

The campaign, called the Great Budget Meal Hunt, aims to increase the list of affordable meal offerings on the BudgetMealGoWhere site – an initiative launched by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) to locate coffee shops offering budget meals – by crowdsourcing recommendations and verifications of existing submissions from members of the public.

The minister told parliament on Tuesday (7 November) that in the one-and-a-half week since its launch, the campaign has received 245 recommendations for affordable meals and 319 verifications across 91 coffee shops.

Members of the public can submit information on food items that are priced between S$3 and S$3.50 and drink items priced at S$1 to S$1.15 on average. The food items should be full meals and not side dishes, snacks, kids meals or half-portion meals.

How to submit suggestions for budget meals

The information can be submitted through CrowdTaskSG, an online government crowdsourcing portal. Users will first have to register as a CrowdTaskSG user before participating. Registration is open to anyone above the age of 18 with a Singpass account.

Participants of the campaign will be able to work on progressively completing challenges and start off at Level 1. Completing a challenge will then give users "stars" to level up in the Great Budget Meal Hunt and allow users to unlock new challenges.
