German Finance Minister: inconceivable we won't agree budget, economy package

Weekly German cabinet meeting in Berlin

BERLIN (Reuters) - It is inconceivable that Germany will not adopt a budget and a package to inject momentum into the economy but the government will not make cuts on security or modernising infrastructure, Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Tuesday.

The three partners in the ruling coalition - the Social Democrats, Greens and Lindner's Free Democrats aim to agree on a draft budget for 2025 by the beginning of July but the parties are still at odds.

"Standstill is unthinkable," said Lindner at an event in the eastern spa town of Bad Saarow, adding: "We cannot cut corners when it comes to improving our infrastructure and accelerating digitalisation."
