FDIC receives law firm's report on sexual harassment, source says

By Pete Schroeder and Douglas Gillison

May 1 (Reuters) - An outside law firm tasked with reviewing allegations of sexual harassment and workplace culture at the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation has delivered its report to the agency, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

Board members at the banking regulator have been briefed on the report's findings and could release the report as soon as next week, the person said on condition of anonymity. An FDIC spokesperson declined to comment.

A bipartisan special committee of the FDIC's board in December hired a team of attorneys from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton to review allegations of widespread sexual misconduct and toxic workplace culture following an expose in The Wall Street Journal that prompted Republican lawmakers to demand the resignation of FDIC Chair Martin Gruenberg.

Gruenberg has said he is personally troubled by the allegations and vowed to address them as a top priority. Investigations by congressional Republicans and the FDIC's Office of Inspector General into the subject are also pending.

A Journal reporter earlier on Wednesday mentioned the report's delivery on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. (Reporting by Douglas Gillison; Editing by Josie Kao)
