KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysian billionaire Ananda Krishnan is in talks with state firm 1MDB [TERRN.UL] to become a cornerstone investor in a long-delayed $3 billion listing of its power assets, two people familiar with the matter said on Thursday. Following are five key facts about Ananda Krishnan, who owns the privately held Malaysian investment firm Usaha Tegas: * Ananda, as he is known in business circles, is 76 yearsold and considered the second-richest man in Malaysia with a networth of $9.7 billion, according to Forbes magazine. * The reclusive billionaire, who rarely makes any publicappearances, holds stakes in some of Malaysia's biggest listedfirms including mobile operator Maxis Bhd and oil andgas services firm Bumi Armada . * A Harvard graduate, Ananda is known to have made his firstmillions as an oil trader in Malaysia. He was a foundingdirector of state oil giant Petronas and was a low-profiledirector of the central bank, Bank Negara, between 1982 and1987. He sold his power company Tanjung Energy to 1MDB in 2012for $2.8 billion. The same year he relisted his pay-TV firmAstro Malaysia Holdings Bhd in a deal worth $1.5billion, valuing the firm about 15.6 billion ringgit. * India's federal police in August filed charges againstAnanda, alongside former Indian telecommunications ministerDayanidhi Maran and his brother billionaire Kalanithi Maran,over alleged corruption to help Maxis acquire a controllingstake in Indian mobile carrier Aircel nine years ago. Maxislater denied all allegations of wrongdoing in the matter andsaid it would seek protection under an international investmenttreaty. * Born to a Sri Lankan civil servant, Ananda spends most ofhis time in the south of France with his wife and visits KualaLumpur occasionally. His two children from his first marriagehave chosen not to take up careers in his business empire,according to media reports, with his son becoming a monk and thedaughter a doctor in Britain.
