Deals of the day-Mergers and acquisitions

May 8 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals were reported by 1950 GMT on Wednesday:

** LyondellBasell said it has launched a strategic review of the European assets of two of its business units.

** Buyout firm Bain Capital is in talks to take education-software provider PowerSchool private, a person familiar with the matter said.

** Billionaire Mike Ashley's Frasers Group is closing in on a deal to become the new British partner of struggling fashion chain Ted Baker, Sky News reported, citing retail industry sources.

** Britain's competition regulator will investigate U.S.-based warehousing firm GXO Logistics' 762 million pound ($952.2 million) completed buyout of UK peer Wincanton, it said.

** British oilfield services and engineering firm John Wood Group rejected a potential 1.42 billion pound ($1.77 billion) buyout proposal from Dubai-based firm Sidara, saying it "undervalued Wood and its future prospects".

** Austria's Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) has abandoned a bid to buy a 1.5 billion euro ($1.6 billion) industrial stake linked to a Russian tycoon, following pressure from Washington to scrap the deal.

** Citigroup said on Tuesday it is buying a minority stake in Cicada Technologies, a Connecticut-based trading platform focused on Mexican government fixed-income securities.

** Spanish lender BBVA told Sabadell it was not planning to improve the all-share takeover offer it had made for its smaller rival, Sabadell said.

** Australia's PSC Insurance will be acquired by Ardonagh Group in a deal valuing the company at A$2.26 billion ($1.51 billion), PSC said, helping the UK-based insurance distribution platform expand its footprint in the region.

** The European Commission is due to rule on June 12 on whether to approve the European Energy Exchange's (EEX) planned acquisition of Nasdaq's European power trading and clearing business, according to a regulatory filing.

** Japan's SoftBank Group is in talks to buy artificial intelligence (AI) chipmaker Graphcore, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

** Olam Agri increased its offer for Australia's Namoi Cotton as an international bidding war heats up between the Singapore-based agribusiness and Dutch company Louis Dreyfus Co (LDC).

** Perpetual said that buyout giant KKR & Co would acquire its wealth management and corporate trust businesses for A$2.18 billion ($1.43 billion), sending the Australian financial services firm's shares to a five-month low.

** Niagara Energy has wrapped up a $1.36 billion share purchase in Enel Generacion Peru, giving the firm majority control over the local subsidiary of Italian utility Enel.

** South Korea's Samsung Medison said it is acquiring all of France's Sonio SAS, a fetal ultrasound artificial intelligence software company for about 126 billion won ($92.4 million).
