DBS making its Paylah! S$3 cashback hawker promo available on National Day
This is in addition to the DBS 5 Million Hawker Meals subsidy that Singapore diners can enjoy every Friday.
SINGAPORE – As part of National Day celebrations, DBS/POSB said that it will be making its 5 Million Hawker Meals subsidy available to Singaporeans and residents on 9 August.
Singapore diners can enjoy a cashback of up to S$3 if they are among the first 100,000 to use DBS PayLah! to pay for a meal at any SGQR-enabled hawker stalls, the bank announced in a media release on Friday (4 Aug).
The National Day special – the occasion falls on a Wednesday this year – is in addition to the hawker meal cashback that diners currently receive every Friday. Earlier in February, DBS/POSB announced that it will subsidise five million hawker meals over the next 12 months.
The bank said that the subsidy is aimed at providing Singaporeans and residents with some relief amid rising everyday expenses as well as supporting the livelihoods of hawkers. To date, the bank said that more than 2.3 million hawker meal subsidies have been redeemed.
"The vibrant hawker culture is a keystone of Singapore's heritage and represents the multicultural tapestry of Singapore. On National Day, we wanted to bring our local communities together to celebrate in a way that is uniquely Singaporean; and what better way than to savour delectable hawker fare with our families and loved ones," Jeremy Soo, DBS Bank's Head of Consumer Banking Group (Singapore), said.

Hawker awards

This year's awards feature eight new categories that focus not just on the cuisine but also on the hawker personalities behind it. This includes awards such as the "Gula Melaka Award" for the sweetest hawker personality and "Chilli Padi Award" for the best under-30s hawker.
