1. You’re Not Investing and Saving

How do you build long-term wealth? It starts with consistent investing and saving. If you don’t have sufficient savings and investments in the bank, you could feel like you never have enough money since there might be little to no financial cushion.

2. You’re Not Budgeting

Budgeting ensures that you have enough money to pay all your bills every month and stay out of debt. Effective budgeting can streamline your finances which can make it much easier to have more money left over at the end of the month. This way, you might actually feel like you have more than enough money for everything.

3. You Don’t Have an Emergency Fund

Having an emergency fund provides an important financial cushion so that you’re prepared for life’s unexpected financial surprises. Whether you’re laid off from your job, have an unexpected car repair bill, or get hit with a surprise medical bill, having cash in an emergency fund can provide peace of mind and prevent you from going into debt.

As a general rule of thumb, it’s best to have at least three to six months’ worth of living expenses saved up. Consider opening a high-yield savings account so that you earn decent interest on your money too, if you don’t already have one.

4. You’re Not Tracking Your Expenses

You should be tracking every expense so you can see where your money is being spent every month. If you’re not tracking your expenses, it’s easy to overspend on purchases you might not be able to afford, which could land you in debt.

5. You’re Not Prioritizing Your Needs Over Your Wants

Your needs are the non-negotiable expenses such as housing, utilities, groceries, medical care, etc. Your wants are pretty much everything else: restaurant meals, vacations, new clothes, etc. If you’re not prioritizing your needs first, you could be spending all your money on wants every month which can leave you with no budget for that. In this case, you might need to take on debt to pay for your needs. Needs always need to be prioritized over wants so that you feel like you have enough money.

6. You’re Not Reaching Your Financial Goals

If you’ve set financial goals and you can’t seem to meet them, this can surely make you feel like you don’t have enough money. Be sure to set attainable goals that align with your budget and current financial means. Hitting those goals can not only be satisfying but also contribute to growing your wealth.
