Walmart earnings, home sales data, Disney: Today's top headlines

Yahoo Finance Live's Akiko Fujita discusses the top headlines of the day, including Walmart's earnings, newly released housing data, and the update to Disney's Florida campus.

AKIKO FUJITA: Well, it's closing time here at Yahoo Finance. Let's get you caught up on some of the biggest headlines of the day.

Walmart reported its first quarter results, topping analyst estimates. The retail giant also raised its full-year forecast. Walmart benefited from wealthier consumers trading down as inflation continues to pinch wallets. Walmart shares ended the day slightly higher up about 1.3%.

SEANA SMITH: We also got a couple of key pieces of housing data today. First up, April existing home sales falling 3.4% from March while median home prices fell 1.7% from a year ago. That's according to the National Association of Realtors.

Meanwhile, Freddie Mac mortgage rate data showing that the 30-year mortgage rates ticked slightly higher, increasing to 6.39% this week from 6.35% the week prior.

AKIKO FUJITA: And finally, Disney says it is canceling plans to move thousands of employees from California to Florida amid the company's feud with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. According to an internal memo obtained by Yahoo Finance, the head of Disney parks cites changes, including new leadership and changing business conditions for the cancelation.
