Teen refugees vow to help rebuild Kyiv

STORY: The teens have been taken in by Berlin resident Katja Schuetz, along with Marta’s younger brother Makar, and fellow Ukrainian Masha Tysganovich - whom Polina and Marta refer to as their “children.”

Nineteen-year-old Polina said the pair worried for their families back in Ukraine.

“We are not soft people, we are really strong and we are going to rebuild our country. And it will be rebuilt by people like me and Polina,” added 18 year-old Marta.

Nearly 147,000 people fleeing the war in Ukraine have registered in Germany so far, an interior ministry spokesperson said on Monday (March 14), adding that the actual number could be much higher.
