Netflix earnings, Fed comments, housing data: What to Watch

Many companies will release their latest earnings, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM), Netflix (NFLX), D.R. Horton (DHI.MX), and Nokia (NOK).

Multiple leaders from the Federal Reserve will speak on Thursday, including Fed Governor Michelle Bowman, New York Fed President John Williams, and Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic.

Housing data in the form of existing home sales for the month of March will be released early on Thursday morning.

JOSH LIPTON: What to watch Thursday, April 18th, another big day of earnings tomorrow. Taiwan, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Netflix, DR Horton, all reporting tomorrow. Netflix reporting after the close and investors will keep a close eye on the streaming giant's subscriber growth. One analyst saying the company is poised to sustain subscriber momentum due to continuing traction on its advertising tier platform. We'll also hear from the housing market as DR Horton reports second quarter earnings for 2024. Analysts expecting net new home sales to climb about 14%, amid an improved demand environment.

JULIE HYMAN: And moving over to the Federal Reserve, we'll get a new round of Fed commentary tomorrow from Fed Governor Michelle Bowman and Fed President John Williams, and Raphael Bostic. This coming after those comments from Fed Chair Jay Powell yesterday. Powell dialing back rate cut expectations as inflation data has come in hotter than expected for the first quarter.

JOSH LIPTON: And finally, we'll be getting some housing data existing home sales numbers for the month of March coming out in the morning. Economists expecting that number to go down ahead of new mortgage rates coming out in the afternoon.
