Markets: Stocks fall, U.S. dollar index hits 20-year high

Yahoo Finance’s Ines Ferre joins the Live show to break down how stocks are moving in early trading.

Video transcript

BRIAN SOZZI: Now let's get over to the YFi Interactive and check in with Ines Ferre. Ines.

INES FERRE: Robo Fry Flipper.

BRIAN SOZZI: Who's not a robot.

JULIE HYMAN: You didn't say it three times, to be fair. Robot fry flip, robot fry flip.

BRIAN SOZZI: Yeah, exactly. There we go.

INES FERRE: All right, guys. Well, investors are trying to see when the selloff is going to end. Well, right now, we are looking at the NASDAQ down almost 1%. The S&P 500 is also lower. The Dow lower as well. And just taking a look at the 10-year Treasury, we are seeing it below the 3% level, down seven basis points right now. You're also looking at the 30-year bond that's up around 3% right now.

Looking at the US Dollar Index hitting two decade highs, this is a two decade high for the US Dollar Index, which is the dollar against a basket of currencies. Also taking a look at equities under the hood, we are seeing in the sector action, energy, technology, that is losing the most right now. You've got consumer staples that are in the green.

Over on the NASDAQ 100, I want to focus on these two stocks, one being Tesla, down 3%, trading just above the 700 level. You have to go back to August of last year to find Tesla at this level. And then also taking a look at Apple, down 3%. Remember that Apple hit a-- its all-time high back in January of this year. And year to date, it's down 20%.

Just want to mention what's happening with travel stocks because we are seeing some pressure on these travel stocks. Hard to find some green on the screen, but we are seeing Rivian up 18%. I know, Sozz, you were mentioning Rivian. But year to date, down 76%. You guys, do you remember when the stock was trading at above $170 intraday, back in last year?

BRIAN SOZZI: Yeah, the execs remember it, too, Ines. They remember as well.

JULIE HYMAN: Ugh.

INES FERRE: That's right.

JULIE HYMAN: Painful memory.

BRAD SMITH: Yahoo Finance's own Ines Ferre taking us back down memory lane with Rivian. Unfortunately, we're tracking it here today as well. We appreciate it. Thanks so much.
