Yahoo Finance Live anchor Seana Smith looks at where stocks settled on Monday afternoon.
SEANA SMITH: A minute 15 here until the closing bell. Dow still barely holding onto gains. You can see the Dow up just about 38 points. NASDAQ composite at negative for today's session, as well as the S&P. The S&P was up you could see earlier in the trading day up just about 1%. Now, in negative territory.
Russell 2000 the small cap index backing the downward trend that we're seeing in the market. You can see some of the small caps there. With the Russell 2000 up just about 1%. The Philly Semiconductor Index, a loser in today's session. Although well off the lows of the day. On track to close off just about 1 and 1/2%. And big reason for that is the losses that we're seeing in Nvidia, and that's of course, stringing over to some of the other semiconductor plays.
In terms of the Dow industrials, Merck and Disney among the top performers in the Dow today. Apple Microsoft some of the tech giants here getting caught up in today's selling action. Let's also take a look at some of those meme stocks here. A lot of frenzy here among some of these most popular names. Bed Bath & Beyond shares skyrocketing nearly 60% in earlier trading session. GameStop and AMC both posting gains today. Here's the closing bell.
And there you have it. You're closing bell for August the 8. Let's check how stocks ended the day. All three major indices there just off slightly. You see the Dow there eeking out some gains there about 0.09%. The S&P 500 there and the NASDAQ down about a 1/10 of a percent there. So a mixed results so far.
