Black Smoke Billows From Electrical Substation Fire in Houston
Black smoke billowed from a fire at an electrical substation in Houston, Texas, on July 9, prompting shelter-in-place orders for the vicinity.
The Houston Fire Department (HFD) said firefighters deployed foam on a transformer at a CenterPoint Energy substation that had caught fire and was burning “class 4 mineral oil.” The HFD said the incident was deemed not a threat but advised local residents to stay inside.
