Residents of two tower blocks in western Germany have been put under quarantine after a woman was diagnosed with the infectious Indian variant of COVID-19, an official said on Tuesday. Several of the 179 residents have since been tested for the coronavirus, public health officer Marcus Kowalczyk said, adding that sequencing the samples to establish if they too had the Indian variant would take several days. "It started suddenly on Sunday," said Ute Nicole Gaertner, a resident of one of the buildings, in Velbert, near Dusseldorf.
Burlington, May 18, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (Burlington, VT) Gardener's Supply Company, founded on the premise that gardens change lives, is responding to the widespread need for more gardens by donating $50,000 in cash and product to non-profits working to stamp out hunger and promote mental wellness through community gardening programs. In 2020, food banks saw a 60% surge in clients and an additional 17 million Americans became food insecure (source: feedingamerica.org). The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic also had a severe impact on individuals' mental health. In response, Gardener's Supply Company launched its Harvest Hope program to foster the creation of more gardens — which provide healthy, nourishing food, cultivate community, and promote relaxation and peace of mind. Creating more gardens is just one part of the puzzle, however. Getting people into those gardens, and building their confidence as gardeners, is another. So Gardener's Supply is excited to be partnering with organizations who are making gardening, gardening education, and fresh, healthy food available through school programs, community gardens, and food banks. Beneficiaries of the Harvest Hope initiative are located in the communities which Gardener's Supply directly serves — including Burlington, Williston, and Milton, VT; Lebanon, NH; and Hadley, MA — and the company's sister city of Austin, TX. Austin has been designated as a sister city due to the strong business ties Gardener's Supply has to the community, it's the primary location for new product photoshoots, and it's home to a number of organizations doing work aligned with the Gardener's Supply Company mission. Additional beneficiaries of the Harvest Hope initiative include Burlington's Intervale Center, KidsGardening.org, Ample Harvest, American Community Gardening Association, Vermont Community Gardening Network, Mental Health America, the Howard Center, and various food banks. Gardener's Supply hopes to amplify the impact of Harvest Hope by inspiring and compelling customers and supporters to donate to or volunteer with campaign partners or similar organizations in their own communities. Anaheim, CA, May 18, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LiveWire Ergogenics Inc. (OTC: LVVV), a health and wellness company focused on special purpose real estate acquisitions, licensing and property management of facilities conducive to produce high-end, organic cannabis products and services in California, announced today its Financial Report for the first quarter of 2021 and provides update on permit application process for its affiliate company Estrella River Farms (“ERF”). Bill Hodson, CEO of LiveWire Ergogenic states, “The national cannabis market is clearly moving towards legalization for medical and recreational use, but at the same time the application process to become a legally operating cannabis cultivation facility has become considerably more complex, expensive and lengthy. California has taken the lead and requires an excruciating amount of information from the companies that apply, carefully scrutinizing every possible environmental and legal rule and regulation from the State level all the way down to local communities, to establish a well-regulated and controlled cannabis industry with products consumers can trust.” The entire state of California is in a drought – so the navigation and registration through multiple State agencies that protect the waterways and supply chain has been the biggest and time-consuming challenge. This very involved process has been complicated by the fact that there are quite a few different agencies involved on several different state and local levels and that there is not one standard platform yet for coordination or standardization of the process between these agencies to expedite the process. Recognizing this complexity, Governor Newsom is now proposing to centralize three of the leading agencies into one, the California Department of Cannabis Control. This change is expected to result in an expedited process for all compliant applications. Hodson continues, “Fortunately for Estrella River Farms, we feel the company is at the tail end of this process that was started roughly twenty months ago. Having said all that and considering that Estrella River Farms has not begun the cultivation process yet, we were still able to report reasonable financial results for the first quarter of 2021. We have managed to finance and enable the build-out process of Estrella River Farms to near completion and are ready for ERF to get “plants in the ground” the moment they have final approval from the State and County. Accordingly, first harvest and generation of revenue will follow quickly thereafter.” “We are also proud to report that we have achieved all this without having to secure large amounts of additional outside investment and accordingly have been able to avoid unreasonable share dilution. We expect all of this to be reflected in our future share price once this initial property is fully up and running. We would also like to express our appreciation for the support and understanding from most of our shareholders and our new investment partners that are continuing to support us every day.” Results of Operation We focused the majority of our efforts during the three months ended March 30, 2021 on the application process to assist in the required conditions of approval for the Estrella River Farms operation. For the first quarter, we had revenue of $83,000 as compared to $141,815 in the same period in 2020. All revenues in the first quarter 2021 were generated through rental, licensing and the management of intellectual and real estate properties. As a consequence of this absolute focus on streamlining operations, we have been able to reduce our loss for the first quarter of 2021 to $338,794 compared to a loss of $2,063,480 for the same period in 2020, an improvement of $1,724,686. Funds required to this stage were raised via our SEC approved Reg A Offering Circular, the details of which are filed with our Q1 2021 Fiancial Report on OTC Markets. About LiveWire Ergogenics Inc. Marianna Naturals Approved as Best Buy Marketplace Seller Co-founder Heather Marianna applying the brand's Divine Blue Light Protection Cream. MONTREAL, May 18, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Marianna Naturals Corp. is pleased to announce that it has been approved as a Best Buy Marketplace Seller as of May 17th, 2021. Contrary to everyone’s belief, Best Buy boasts various products other than electronics in their marketplace including skincare. With over 250 million annual visits and 2.3 million orders per year, the Best Buy platform is an excellent opportunity for driving revenue and increasing growth and awareness for the brand. This is great news for the company considering the recent launch of their Divine Blue Light Protection Cream and Mist that helps fight the effects of HEV (High Energy Visible) rays that emit not only from the sun but from your smartphone, tablets, computer screens and other handheld devices. Blue Light is extremely harmful to the skin, causing it to age prematurely. Using products such as the company’s new Blue Light Protection Cream will help to prevent it. Sticking with the theme of “Where Skincare Meets Technology” Marianna Naturals is delivering on it’s promise, to “outshine” its competitors with innovative technology and adaptable skincare products for consumers. This is the 2nd major marketplace where the brand’s products are featured, previously announcing on December 11th, 2020 that they had been approved as a Walmart Marketplace Seller. Marianna Naturals has 45 different products currently listed in the Walmart Marketplace with the brand expecting to list the same products in the Best Buy Marketplace over the next couple of weeks. The Best Buy team and Marianna Naturals’ development team are in-the-midst of completing the onboarding process over the course of the next few days. “We are extremely pleased with the recent marketplace agreement with Best Buy. This partnership will certainly help drive the brand’s initiative as an innovative thinker and player in the skincare space” said Joel DeBellefeuille, CEO & Co-founder of Marianna Naturals. Having been struck by the global pandemic the company had to really think outside of the box. They filled that void of the lack of in-person customer service and care by integrating their skin diagnostics tool into the backend of their e-commerce site, by providing customary product recommendations for consumers in real-time. Marianna Naturals is now the #1 search result on Google in over 80 million results when searching for “skin diagnostics” surpassing industry titans such as Clinique and Decorte that have similar applications. This is a major milestone and a great achievement for the company in such a short amount of time. Tesla offers buyers a $10,000 self-driving package that equips the vehicle to take highway exit ramps, change lanes, and even stop at traffic lights and stop signs on its own.
A U.S. State Department report on Central American officials "credibly alleged" to be corrupt includes six sitting Honduran lawmakers and two Guatemalan legislators, according to a list released by the office of U.S. Rep. Norma Torres on Tuesday. The report also includes former senior officials in Guatemala, and follows the inclusion on the same list of a member of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele's cabinet as well as a former Salvadoran minister. The list emerged less than a week after the U.S. special envoy for Central America, Ricardo Zuniga, visited El Salvador and met Bukele amid a push from the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden to confront graft and bolster the rule of law in the region.

The Biden administration has approved the release of three prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay for almost 20 years without charge, according to The New York Times. Citing US government officials and lawyers for the detainees, the Times reported the decision was approved last week but that that the timing of the release was unclear as the State Department negotiated agreements with countries to take them. The three men include the oldest detainee of Guantanamo, Saifullah Paracha, 73, of Pakistan, who was captured in 2003.
The shift announced by Quebec will follow a similar approach to policies introduced in British Columbia, Alberta and recently in New Brunswick to transition patients who use a reference biologic to a biosimilar. This will contribute to substantial annual savings that can be reinvested in healthcare and innovative new drugs. The transition will take place under the supervision of the attending physicians and patients will continue receiving safe and effective treatment. Sandoz Canada has a portfolio of six biosimilars (Omnitrope, Rixymio, Erelzi, Hyrimoz, Ziextenzo and Inclunox).Sandoz Canada is committed to supporting patients, their healthcare professionals and the Quebec government throughout the transition period with quality biosimilar medicines, medical teams, physician and pharmacist advocacy teams, as well as proven patient support programs. BOUCHERVILLE, Quebec, May 18, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sandoz Canada, a leader in generic pharmaceuticals and biosimilars, welcomes the Quebec Government’s shift towards biosimilars. According to the government’s announcement, this transition will generate annual savings of more than $100 for the public drug insurance plan and its insured parties. These savings will be reinvested in the healthcare system to improve access to innovative drug therapies, in particular. Quebec is following the biosimilar transition policies implemented by British Columbia and Alberta in 2019 and, more recently, New Brunswick in 2021. With this announcement, the provinces that have adopted and implemented such a policy now make it possible for almost half of the Canadian population to benefit from it1. Under the Quebec initiative, the province will eventually cover only biosimilar drugs on formularies, with some exceptions, and will transition patients who use the reference biologic medicine to the listed biosimilar by April 12, 2022, under the supervision of their attending physicians. “At Sandoz Canada, we are pleased to see that Quebec is adopting a switch policy already initiated by other provinces and is moving towards biosimilars. We are ready to support the government, physicians, pharmacists and all healthcare professionals with our six quality biosimilars, while helping to generate significant savings for the healthcare system,” said Michel Robidoux, President and General Manager, Sandoz Canada. “With COVID-19 placing our healthcare system under major budget constraints, biosimilar transition policies are an opportunity to contribute to the sustainability of health system financing and provide funding for new innovations,” he added. “The government has stated its intention to engage in discussions with key healthcare partners, and Sandoz intends to actively cooperate in these discussions. We want to share our experience with the Ministry in order to provide patients with the highest quality of care. It will also be an opportunity to clarify certain details of the shift towards biosimilars, in particular with the new regulation (section 80.2) coming into effect as part of the Act respecting prescription drug insurance,” said Karine Matteau, Vice President, Bio-Generic Hospital/Physician channel and Head of Biosimilars at Sandoz Canada. “Sandoz is fully committed to supporting patients and their healthcare team during this transition period and beyond through our education initiatives and our patient support programs. We have set up a website for Canadians, BiosimilarsGeneration.ca, which contains a wealth of information and resources related to biosimilars,” she added. About Biosimilars A biosimilar is a biologic medicine that has demonstrated it is highly similar and has no clinically meaningful differences in efficacy and safety compared to the reference biologic already authorized for sale.2 Biosimilars may become commercially available following the expiry of patents and data protection periods of the reference biologic medicine. The Patented Medicines Pricing Review Board has estimated that private and public drug plans across Canada could save from CA$294 million to CA$1.136 billion by 2021 for established biosimilars3 available in Canada for at least two years, and from CA$222 million to CA$447 million by 20234 for new biosimilars that recently entered the Canadian market. For further information on biosimilars in Canada, visit BiosimilarsGeneration.ca, which aims to support and educate patients, healthcare professionals and Canadians by providing policy updates from public drug plans, as well as evidence-based information and resources from Canadian, international research and clinical communities, and patient organizations representing Canadians living with chronic diseases who take biologic medicines. In addition, the site also presents the positions of organizations that represent Canadian patients with chronic diseases who take biologic drugs. Since 2009, Health Canada has authorized 36 biosimilars of reference biologics present on the Canadian market5 and Sandoz Canada has six of them marketed in the country (Omnitrope, Erelzi, Ziextenzo, Riximyo, Hyrimoz and Inclunox). About transitioning In the context of biosimilar use, Health Canada “considers switching between authorized products to refer to a change from routine use of one specific product to routine use of another specific product. Patients and healthcare providers can have confidence that biosimilars are effective and safe for each of their authorized indications. No differences are expected in efficacy and safety following a change in routine use between a biosimilar and its reference biologic drug in an authorized indication.”6 About Sandoz Canada Sandoz International GmbH is a world leader in generics and biosimilars and a division of the Swiss multinational Novartis. Sandoz Canada is a pioneer, a leader and trusted supplier of quality generics and biosimilars with over 65 million prescriptions per year, based on decades of global experience and capabilities in the development, manufacturing and commercialization of its products.
