Aerial Footage Captures Lava Shooting From Cumbre Vieja's Main Cone

The ongoing Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption intensified on Wednesday, October 27, spewing lava fountains above the Spanish island of La Palma.

The Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (Involcan) reported the eruption strengthened on Wednesday night, following a small collapse inside a cone earlier in the day.

This video taken by Spain’s Geological and Mining Institute shows lava shooting out of the volcano’s main cone at around noon on October 27.

The EU’s Copernicus Emergency Management Service said the lava flow had covered over 908 hectares (2,244 acres) as of October 26. Credit: IGME via Storyful
