India says peace at Chinese border key as direct flights remain stalled

India's foreign ministry said peace on its border with China was critical for relations to become normal, reacting on Friday to a Reuters report that New Delhi was not keen to restart direct flights with China amid a stand-off on their Himalayan frontier. China has been pressing India to restart direct passenger flights after a four-year halt, but New Delhi is resisting as the border dispute continues to weigh on ties between the world's two most populous countries, Reuters reported on Thursday.

China Southern Airlines to add 17 international routes

BEIJING (Reuters) -China Southern Airlines on Monday launched its first flight between Beijing and Macau and said it plans to add 17 international routes, in a sign it expects a pick-up in international travel this year. Macau, a special administrative region of China, is a popular tourist spot and the world's biggest gambling hub. China's international airline industry has recovered only slowly following the lifting of pandemic restrictions in early 2023, struggling to match gains in domestic travel as consumers remain price-sensitive in a sluggish economy.

Boeing 737 MAX lands in China, ending import freeze on order backlog

The first Boeing 737 MAX jet delivered to a Chinese airline since March 2019 landed in China on Saturday, ending an almost five-year import freeze on the planemaker's most profitable jets and heralding the potential delivery of a backlog of dozens of finished MAXs to China. The 737 MAX 8 left Seattle Boeing field in Washington state on Wednesday after being handed over to China Southern Airlines , stopping in Hawaii and the Northern Mariana Islands before its final leg to Guangzhou in southern China, tracking data from FlightRadar24 shows. China, which was the first country to ground MAX jets after two MAX 8 accidents in 2018 and 2019 that killed nearly 350 people, gave Boeing permission last month to resume deliveries of its 737 MAX 8 to local customers.
