United We Stand focuses on geographical areas that scored the lowest in Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. A cross-sector coalition of companies including Unilever, Zurich, Sanofi and Uber have urged the EU to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles from 2035, piling pressure on the auto industry ahead of a crunch vote. In a public letter to be sent to MEPs and ministers on Tuesday, the group says such a decision would “set in motion an urgently needed systemic transformation and make Europe a global leader in a key industry”.
