Friday was the busiest day in U.S. aviation history as the summer travel season began in earnest. But the sector’s stocks were falling Wednesday after American Airlines slashed its outlook.
American Airlines shares were down nearly 8% in premarket trading on Wednesday, dragging peers Delta Air, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, which all fell between 1.5% and 2.5%. The Fort Worth, Texas-based company revised its forecast on Tuesday and now expects second-quarter adjusted earnings in the range of $1.00 to $1.15 per share, compared to previous expectations of $1.15 to $1.45 per share.
