Nissan will invest in Renault EV unit even though IPO scrapped, CEO says

Japan's Nissan Motor will invest in the electric vehicle unit of alliance partner Renault even though the French carmaker has decided not to list the unit, Nissan's CEO said on Wednesday. "We want to further our growth in Europe, we want to further have the leverage from the alliance," Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida told reporters during a press briefing in the southern Indian city of Chennai. The first visit to India by the chiefs of Renault and Nissan reflects the importance of the South Asian nation as a growth market, especially as carmakers face rising competition from Chinese rivals.

Nissan may bring ultra-compact EV production in-house from 2028, sources say

Japan's Nissan Motor may bring production of its ultra-compact electric vehicles in-house, five people familiar with the matter said, emboldened by the success of its Sakura model currently built by junior partner Mitsubishi Motors. The automaker is considering moving production to its factory on the southern island of Kyushu in the business year starting April 2028, said two of the people, who declined to be identified as the information was private. Nissan and Mitsubishi denied the plan.
