Airbus upgrades 20-year demand forecast led by wide-body jets

Airbus on Monday revised up its 20-year demand forecast for jetliners as many airlines modernise long-haul fleets and Asia's surging economies lock into air travel. Airbus predicted industry-wide deliveries of 42,430 new airplanes over the next 20 years, including 41,490 passenger jets, with both figures up 4% since the previous survey. Airbus divides its demand forecasts into trips that are typically carried out on single-aisle planes, the industry's most-sold models, and the marathon segment for wide-body jets.

Airbus and Thales explore tie-up of space activities, sources say

European aerospace groups Airbus and Thales are exploring a tie-up of some space activities as new competition disrupts the sector, two industry sources said. Both companies declined to comment on the discussions, which were first reported by La Tribune. Airbus and Thales Alenia Space, in which Italy's Leonardo holds a 33% stake, are Europe's largest makers of satellites for telecommunications, navigation and surveillance.
