LATAM Airlines expands frequency of Brazil international flights; Air France adds route

LATAM Airlines will increase the frequency of seven of its international routes connecting Brazil to the United States and countries in Europe and Africa, it said on Thursday. The move by Chile-based LATAM, whose local unit is currently Brazil's No. 1 carrier in international operations by market share, comes as rival Air France KLM also announced it would add a new route to the South American nation. LATAM said starting Oct. 27, it will increase flights from Sao Paulo to Orlando, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, Milan, Rome, Madrid and Lisbon by 38% when compared to the same period a year ago.

Air France, Lufthansa Group airlines part of EU greenwashing probe

BRUSSELS (Reuters) -Air France, its Dutch arm KLM, Norwegian, SAS and several Lufthansa Group airlines are among 20 carriers being investigated by the European Union for potential greenwashing, the companies said on Thursday. The EU said airlines needed to make clear to what extent claims about tackling aircraft CO2 emissions - whether by offsetting them with climate projects or using sustainable fuels - can be substantiated by sound scientific evidence. The Lufthansa Group airlines under investigation are Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Eurowings, the group said on Thursday, while a spokesperson for Air France-KLM confirmed the group was also part of the probe.

Air France KLM adds flights to North Africa amid Middle East conflict

Chief Executive Officer Ben Smith said during a call with analysts that the airline was "cautiously optimistic" that demand for Tel Aviv and Beirut flights will recover, but those in southern Egypt and Jordan are still not close to pre-October levels. Global travel demand has weakened since the conflict broke out between Israel and Hamas in October.
