This season, the Big Apple is getting a sweet holiday twist.

Through Jan. 15, the Museum of the City of New York is showcasing iconic N.Y.C. landmarks made of gingerbread in its aptly titled Gingerbread NYC exhibition, now in its second year.

The installation features work from both professional and amateur N.Y.C. bakers tasked with recreating 20-plus hot spots like the Brooklyn Bridge, Yankee Stadium, Grand Army Plaza Arch and the Bronx Zoo. And to make it even tastier, visitors can vote for their favorites, with their numbers counting in an end-of-season contest judged by five New York culinary icons.

According to museum staff, the full exhibition started with 1010 lbs. of gingerbread dough, 161 lbs. of icing and 105 lbs. of candy. Bakers and decorators — some of whom have day jobs outside the food industry and did this in their free time — spent 3,500 hours creating the structures.

"We are savoring MCNY's centennial year and celebrating the holidays," says Stephanie Wilchfort, Ronay Menschel Director and President of the Museum of the City of New York. “Last year’s installation was a joy to behold (not to mention to smell). Now, we again have the sweet opportunity to highlight the special ingredient that makes New York, New York, creative people — professionals and amateurs alike — who hail from around the city.”

Check out Gingerbread NYC now through Jan. 15 at the Museum of the City of New York.
