SINGAPORE (EDGEPROP) - US-based Wyndham Hotels and Resorts will launch a soft opening of its first namesake hotel brand in Singapore next month. The flagship 591-key hotel will be named the Peninsula Excelsior Singapore, a Wyndham Hotel. The hotel is located at 5 Coleman Street in the Civic District.

The hotel's official launch is set for early 2024, following a multi-million-dollar refurbishment. The property is owned by regional hotel group YTC Hotels, part of the YTC Group, which also owns the neighbouring Peninsular Hotel. The group also owns Menara Peninsular Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In February, the YTC Group put up the collective sale of Excelsior Hotel and a shopping centre with a reserve price of $458 million and signed Cushman & Wakefield as the marketing agent. The entire building comprises a 21-storey tower with a 284-key hotel and a five-storey retail podium. The collective sale tender closed on April 18 with no successful bids.

The launch of the new brand marks the first step in the international hotel franchising company’s move to further entrench its position in the city-state. In a press release, the company says that Wyndham will double down on its focus to further establish a larger presence with its distinctive, upscale, midscale, lifestyle and value brands in the country.

“Singapore plays a significant part in Wyndham’s regional growth strategy and its intention to fulfil its commitment of providing guests with best-in-class accommodation options across the region. This opening further illustrates our growth momentum in the region and builds upon our strong pipeline of recent signings and openings,” says Matt Holmes, vice president of business development in South East Asia and the Pacific Rim, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.
