William and Kate snuck in a secret date night on their royal tour

It's been another busy week of work for Prince William and Kate Middleton (same), as they've embarked on their first tour of the year, across Scotland (not same). During the trip they've already met frontline workers, revisited their old university and spent time with young carers – and in amongst their formal duties, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also found time to sneak off for a romantic date night together. Cute!

Last night, William and Kate headed to Forgan's, which is billed as a contemporary restaurant with a 'Scottish twist', in St Andrews (just a short walk from the university where the couple met over twenty years ago). The menu includes yummy-sounding dishes such as honey and whiskey glazed short rib of beef (for £17) and haggis, neeps and tatties (£11).

A photo of the couple exiting the restaurant was shared by a royal enthusiast on Twitter, should you care to check it out, and shows Kate dressed down in skinny jeans, her new white and pink jumper from Campell's of Beauly (that she also sported while land yachting in Fife earlier that day), and white trainers. William kept on the outfit he'd worn previously that day – a jumper over a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and brown, suede brogues.

Speaking about the royal visit, manager Marc, who did not share his surname, said to OK!, "There was a crowd outside once they left but as far as inside goes it was quiet. There was no pomp and ceremony or fanfare, they were very nice and when they left they were very complementary."

It's believed that the couple, wanting to keep things low-key, asked to be seated in a more private area at the back of the restaurant. Marc added that he was off duty when the couple arrived and staff called him at home, "Word certainly reached me we had guests come in."

The Duke and Duchess are clearly enjoying their trip and it's known that Scotland is a very special place for the pair, who met while both studying at St Andrews University back in 2001 (William did a geography degree, while Kate opted for art history).
