VEGOILS-Palm edges higher after 5 sessions of falls

* Palm oil rises tracking CBOT soyoil's gain on Friday

* Strong ringgit, however, seen capping gains - trader

* Chinese markets closed on Monday for national holiday

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures

rose slightly on Monday after five straight sessions of

declines, tracking strength in crude oil and U.S. Chicago Board

of Trade (CBOT) soyoil's gain on Friday.

However, recent gains in the ringgit were seen

capping the upside, as a strong ringgit makes the edible oil

more expensive for holders of foreign currencies.

The ringgit, which traded near a 10-month low for most of

last week, closed higher for a second straight session on

Friday. It was down 0.1 percent at 4.1320 per dollar at the

midday break on Monday.

The benchmark palm oil contract for December delivery

on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange was up 0.2

percent at 2,148 ringgit ($519.85) a tonne at the midday break,

after hitting a three-year low on Friday.

Palm shed 3.6 percent last week in its second consecutive

weekly decline.

Trading volumes stood at 14,635 lots of 25 tonnes each at

noon. (1FCPO-TOT)

CBOT soyoil's gain on Friday and firm crude oil on Monday

helped palm oil open on a strong note, said a Kuala Lumpur-based

futures trader.

Oil prices gained as U.S. markets tightened just weeks ahead

of Washington's plan to impose new sanctions against Iran.

Palm oil prices are impacted by movements in crude oil, as

palm is used as feedstock to make biodiesel.

In other related oils, the Chicago September soybean oil

contract jumped 1.8 percent on Friday but was down 0.4

percent on Monday.

Chinese financial markets were closed on Monday for the

Mid-Autumn festival. Trading will resume on Tuesday.

Palm oil prices are affected by movements of other edible

oils, as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils

market.
