Trump again accuses the Fed of being political to help Obama

Donald Trump still thinks Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen has a political agenda.

"The Fed is doing political things. ... The Fed is being more political than Secretary Clinton," Trump said Monday at the first presidential debate at Hofstra University.

The GOP presidential candidate failed to name any specific political maneuvering being carried out by the central bank, but has said it would wait to raise interest rates until President Barack Obama is out of office.

The Fed is an independent government agency tasked to promote maximum employment and price stability, but that has not stopped Trump from repeatedly claiming it has political workings. Fed policymakers have disputed that notion.

"I can emphatically say that partisan politics plays no role in our decisions," Yellen told reporters this month after the Federal Open Market Committee's two-day policy meeting.
