Top 4 Reasons Why Going To Dating Agencies Isn't The Worst Thing That Can Happen To You

This article was originally on GET.com at: Top 4 Reasons Why Going To Dating Agencies Isn't The Worst Thing That Can Happen To You

Are you a single Singaporean who can't help but wonder why you aren't out on dates just like everyone else you know? It can be difficult to ask someone out if you spend so many hours at work and it's certainly not easy to approach that cute guy or girl you see every weekday at the Jurong East MRT station. If you're lonely not by choice, and don't feel comfortable meeting people through online dating apps, you could consider going to a dating agency.

Dating agencies function as agents to create opportunities for single individuals to meet and connect. They exist to help those who seek help. Think about it, your parents and grand aunt Nancy can finally stop rubbing salt into your wound and stop interrogating you on why you're still single. We at GET.com have come up with the top 4 reasons why going to dating agencies isn't the worst thing that can happen to you.

Top 4 Reasons Why Going To Dating Agencies Isn't The Worst Thing That Can Happen To You

1. You Have Nothing To Lose

Drawing reference from South Koreans' willingness to venture to dating agencies in the hopes of meeting their special someones, Senior Minister of State Josephine Teo suggested that Singaporeans who are single and ready to become attached should also "embrace dating agencies".

If you haven't been on a single date for a long time and that's not because you don't want to but because you don't have any potential date in mind to hang out with, you should probably try going to a dating agency. Well, you never know if this would really work unless you give it a shot, right?

Although going to a dating agency is undeniably still rather stigmatised in our ironically conservative Singaporean society, you have nothing to lose, really. And if you feel dreadful about going to a dating agency because your friends and family think you're a "loser", all you have to do is to not tell anyone about it. Easy peasy.

2. You May Not Even Need To Pay

Some dating agencies don't charge you anything for basic services. In the case of the dating agency GaiGai for instance, joining as a member comes free and you even get to schedule your meeting with your assigned personal relationship manager in person for free, too.

You have the option of purchasing their dates packages to become their "paid member" or remain as a "free member". For the latter, you will still be actively screened at no charge and be invited for dates with GaiGai's paid members. This, of course, means you'll get to exercise more control and have access to more dates if you pay.

Nevertheless, feel free to check out the Registry of Dating Agencies for more options. They are all accredited dating agencies under the SDNTrust (FYI, SDN stands for Social Development Network) Accreditation, so no worries about them being bogus!

3. You Learn More About Yourself

That includes discovering your preferences, your likes and dislikes, what you expect in a partner at this stage of your life, the values and ideals that you hold dear to et cetera because you now have to sit yourself down to really think things through and figure out what's ok and what's not.

You may even stumble upon different sides of you which you didn't even know existed. For instance, your willingness to try alternative sports, run a marathon, enrol in cooking classes or zumba classes.

For those of you who are still looking for that side of you that you'd like to discover and develop, maybe these 10 free online courses will help you find something new that you love to do.

4. You Gain Social Experience

Even if things don't work out between you and your date, at least you would have expanded your network and made more friends. What's there to lose when you get to get out there and meet people?

Interacting with people may even help you become more outgoing as you start meeting and talking to individuals who are genuinely keen in establishing relationships, and by relationships, I don't mean just one that is romantic. A friendship can emerge, and over time, who knows whether that friendship will blossom into something more?

Ask around and you'll realize how many strong, loving relationships actually started because of this amazing thing called friendship.
