Tech in Asia raises Series B round led by Fenox Venture Capital
Tech in Asia, a media company focusing on technology startups and trends, has raised a Series B round led by Silicon Valley investor Fenox Venture Capital. The round is joined by existing backers East Ventures and Simile Venture Partners.
Besides covering technology news, the company is known for Startup Asia, a bi-annual two-day conference for tech startups and investors. Past attendees include current Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer and Kakao co-CEO Sirgoo Lee. The next conference will be held in November in Jakarta. It has also been holding monthly meetups in various Asian cities.
Tech in Asia currently has a presence in Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand and China.
This investment comes just months after e27, another tech news and events company from Singapore, raised USD 613k from B Dash Ventures in Japan, Pinehurst Advisors from Taiwan, Thailand’s Ardent Capital, and others.
Overall, coverage of tech news in the region has stepped up a notch, with many indigenous websites including Digital News Asia, beSuccess, and Startup Dating working the ground and US tech blogs like TechCrunch and TheNextWeb keeping an eye on the region too.
Fenox Venture Capital focuses on early and growth stage funding in consumer internet, new media, and software technology companies in North America and Asia. This investment will be the first of many in the region for Fenox Venture Capital, according to general partner Anis Uzzaman.
Its recent portfolio includes ShareThis, 99dresses, Dream Link Entertainment (DLE), Bottlenose and Socialize.
Fenox also operates a joint venture with IMJ Investment Partners to focus on startups in Asia. In June, it was involved in a Series A round in UrbanIndo, an Indonesian online real estate marketplace.
